Hmmm, some of the latest changes on my LinkedIn page are the exams I took. Last year I started to follow SANS classes, both self-paced / self-study as well as classical teacher-shows-powerpoint courses.
In this post I want to give some thougts about them

SANS SEC275: Foundations: Computers, Technology, & Security
Started in Jan 2023, this is basic entry course for me. Most, if not all, of the material was handled during my education and/or self study.
Some details in the book where incomplete or written super basically.

In order to find some trick questions, I used a simple lookup list in order to find the topic in the supplied material.
The setup for my home exam. I didn’t like it. It took a while, had to remove the secondary screen, and so forth.

SANS SEC401: Security Essentials – Network, Endpoint, and Cloud
This was my first classical deep dive into the world of SANS courses.
The lookup sheet I used

The course had two trail exams that I was able to make at home

The test centre corridors

SANS SEC504: Hacker Tools, Techniques, and Incident Handling
Oh, this course I liked. The class got Rick as a teacher. See him as a rocker, screaming through the class ‘Fuck yeah’ (or something like that, haha, I’m writing this blog over a year later).
Throughout the week we played around in several virtual machines. To quote something Rick said, ‘If they ask you what you did this week, multi stage hacking, yeah :rocker-emojy:’

We had some time to watch some rocket p0rn

It contained a capture the flag event on the 6th day. Yups, we won.

SANS SEC450: Blue Team Fundamentals: Security Operations and Analysis
Again, a nice capture the flag event on the 6th day. Unfortunately, we became 2nd. But we had fun and an air-fryer
